Teknaf: best time to visit and today's weather
beach · Teknaf, Cox's Bazar
Updated: Monday, 7 September 2026
Teknaf is the southernmost town on mainland Bangladesh, squeezed between the Naf River, which forms the border with Myanmar, and the Bay of Bengal. The river jetty in town looks straight across to Myanmar's hills, the quiet Teknaf sea beach lies about 5 km south-west, and the 80 km Cox's Bazar–Teknaf Marine Drive ends here after passing the secluded beach at Shamlapur. The Teknaf Wildlife Sanctuary just north of town is one of the few places in the country where wild Asian elephants can still be seen.
Best time to visit
November, December, January, February
November to February is the dry season: the Bay is calm, the air is clear enough to see Myanmar's hills across the Naf, and the Marine Drive is at its most comfortable with the coolest, least humid days.
Weather caution
The Bay is rough and boat movement is restricted during the June–September monsoon; this coast sits in the cyclone belt in April–May and October–November; monsoon rain also brings landslides on the peninsula's hill slopes and erosion along the Marine Drive.
