Sonadia is a 9 km² island in Kutubjom union of Maheshkhali, about 15 km northwest of Cox's Bazar and separated from the main island by a tidal channel. It is a designated Important Bird Area with wintering migratory shorebirds, sand dunes, mangrove channels and beaches where olive ridley and green turtles nest. There are no hotels; visitors come for the day or camp on the western beach.
Best time to visit
November, December, January, February
November to February: the sea is calm enough for the open-boat crossing, skies are dry and clear for camping, and December–February is when the migratory shorebirds are in.
Weather caution
Avoid June–September: the crossing is in small open boats and the Bay is rough; the island has no shelter or services, so also stay away during the April–May and October–November cyclone windows.

Getting there from Dhaka
Get to Cox's Bazar first (10–12 hours by bus, about 1 hour by air), then from Kastura Ghat take a speedboat to Maheshkhali (12–15 min), a CNG 24 km to Ghotibhanga and an engine boat across the Sonadia channel; a direct speedboat from Cox's Bazar takes about 20 minutes but skips the mangrove channels.
