Nafakhum is a waterfall on the Remakri stream, a tributary of the Sangu, deep in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban. Only about 25-30 ft high, it is among the largest waterfalls in Bangladesh by volume of water; the Marma name refers to a fish ('ngafa') said to leap up the falls. Reaching it means a boat ride up the Sangu past Tindu and the Raja Pathor rocks to Remakri, then a two- to three-hour walk.

September, October, November
Post-monsoon the falls still carry heavy flow, but the Sangu has calmed enough for the Thanchi-Remakri boats to run safely and skies begin to clear.
Weather caution
In peak monsoon (Jun-Aug) flash floods on the Sangu and landslides on the Thanchi road are common; boats and the trekking route are often closed and the administration bans tourist travel. Dec-Feb is safe but the flow drops, and exposed rocks mean boats must be pushed through shallow stretches.

Getting there from Dhaka
Overnight bus from Dhaka to Bandarban (7-8 h), morning bus or jeep to Thanchi (79 km, about 4-4.5 h), engine boat up the Sangu to Remakri (2-4 h depending on water level), then a 2-3 h walk. Army registration at Thanchi and Remakri and a local guide are mandatory; allow at least three days.
