Nilgiri is the army-run hill resort on the Tengplong Chut summit at about 2,200 ft, 46-50 km from Bandarban on the Bandarban-Thanchi road beyond Chimbuk, and the country's best-known sea-of-clouds viewpoint. Cottages, a helipad and viewing terraces sit on the ridge; entry is by ticket at the army checkpoint and no vehicles are allowed up after 5 pm. Coordinates are OpenStreetMap's for the Nilgiri helipad beside the resort (the Nilgiri bus stop is 200 m south). The ridge sits at the Thanchi-Ruma boundary: Bangladeshi press places it in Thanchi upazila, while OpenStreetMap's boundary puts the point in Ruma, and neither Wikipedia nor the upazila portals settle it.

October, November, December, January
October-November clear mornings after the rains give the classic cloud sea below with sharp views above; December-January stays dry with cool, misty dawns and the Thanchi road in its safest condition, and the Bangla Wikipedia notes the winter cloud cover is what draws visitors.
Weather caution
Monsoon (June-September) brings the thickest clouds but frequent landslides and washouts on the Bandarban-Thanchi road, and the hill roads are sometimes closed after heavy rain; in monsoon you may see only white-out. Vehicles are stopped at the checkpoint after 5 pm, foreign visitors need advance permission, and March-May is hot and hazy with little cloud.

Getting there from Dhaka
Take an overnight bus from Dhaka to Bandarban (7-8 hours, about 326 km; Shyamoli, Hanif, Saint Martin, Unique, S Alam), then hire a chander gari or jeep from the Ruma/Thanchi jeep station for the 2-2.5 hour climb up the Thanchi road (roughly Tk 3,000-5,000 return), or ride the hourly Thanchi local bus and get off at the Nilgiri stop; leave town by 5-6 am to catch the clouds.
