Adinath Temple is a Shiva shrine on the 85 m Mainak Hill on Maheshkhali, Bangladesh's only hilly island, about 12 km across the channel from Cox's Bazar. The climb up the hill steps is rewarded with views over the island's salt pans and betel-leaf gardens out to the Bay. The Shiva Chaturdashi fair in Falgun (February–March) runs for around two weeks and draws pilgrims from across the subcontinent.
Best time to visit
November, December, January, February
November to February gives a calm channel crossing, dry steps up Mainak Hill and cool weather; aim for late February–March if you want the Shiva Chaturdashi fair.
Weather caution
In the June–September monsoon the channel gets choppy and the hill steps turn slippery; the open-water crossing is exposed during the April–May and October–November cyclone seasons.

Getting there from Dhaka
Reach Cox's Bazar (10–12 hours by bus, about 1 hour by air), then from Kastura Ghat take a speedboat (about 20 min) or wooden trawler (about 1 hour) to Maheshkhali's Gorakghata jetty and a rickshaw or CNG to the foot of the temple steps.
