Rangamati Hanging Bridge: best time to visit and today's weather
lake · Rangamati Sadar, Rangamati
Updated: Monday, 7 September 2026
The 335-foot suspension footbridge at the Parjatan complex in Tabalchhari links two hillocks over Kaptai Lake, Bangladesh's largest lake, and is Rangamati's signature image. Built in the mid-1980s and run by Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation, it is the launch point for boat trips to Shuvolong and the lake islands; when the lake rises in late monsoon the deck goes underwater and the bridge is closed for weeks. Coordinates are taken from the OpenStreetMap footway for the bridge itself, about 2 km south-west of the town centre.
Best time to visit
November, December, January, February
Dry, clear days from November to February keep the lake calm for boat trips and the bridge reliably above water; winter mornings bring light mist over the lake.
Weather caution
In late monsoon (August-October) Kaptai Lake often rises above the deck and Parjatan closes the bridge, sometimes for weeks. Monsoon (June-September) also brings landslides on the Chattogram-Rangamati road and the surrounding hills (the June 2017 landslides killed over a hundred people in Rangamati), and by April-May the lake drops so low that the Shuvolong channel and waterfall are at their poorest.
