Bhimruli Floating Guava Market: best time to visit and today's weather
river · Jhalakathi Sadar, Jhalokathi
Updated: Monday, 7 September 2026
On the Kirtipasha canal at Bhimruli village in Jhalokathi Sadar, hundreds of small boats heaped with guavas converge every monsoon morning and all trading happens boat-to-boat on the water; locals call it the noukar haat. The market draws on roughly 9,000 acres of guava orchards spread across Jhalokathi, Pirojpur and Barishal, with Atghar and Kuriana floating markets a short boat ride away. The canal-side market runs year-round, but the guava boats crowd it only during the harvest, July to September, and trading is busiest in the early morning.
Best time to visit
July, August
Guava ripens with the monsoon, so the guava boats come only July-September and peak in July-August, when the canals are brimming, the orchards are at their greenest and the boats are fullest; go at dawn, as trading thins out by mid-morning.
Weather caution
This is peak monsoon: expect daily downpours and squalls on open boats, so carry rain cover and keep phones sealed. Launch crossings of the Meghna can be rough when river-port warning signals are up, and heavy spells can flood the low-lying orchard lanes; outside the harvest months the market carries on with amra, lemons and vegetables, but the guava boats are gone.
