Panam City (Sonargaon): best time to visit and today's weather
heritage site · Sonargaon, Narayanganj
Updated: Monday, 7 September 2026
Panam Nagar is a single street of 52 crumbling colonial-era mansions in Sonargaon, built by wealthy Hindu cloth merchants in the 19th century on the site of Isa Khan's old capital and emptied out after Partition. Protected by the Department of Archaeology since 2003 and placed on the World Monuments Fund watch list in 2006, it sits about 27 km southeast of Dhaka beside the Sonargaon Folk Art and Crafts Museum, making it the capital's easiest heritage day trip.
Best time to visit
November, December, January, February
Dry, clear November–February days are best for walking the open street and photographing the brickwork; the lanes are dust-free after the monsoon and the sun is gentle enough to linger.
Weather caution
The site is entirely outdoors: the June–September monsoon makes the old brick floors slippery and the Mograpara approach roads waterlogged, and April–May brings intense heat and sudden nor'wester (kalbaishakhi) storms with no shelter but the ruins.
