Kuakata, nicknamed Sagar Kanya (daughter of the sea), is an 18 km beach at the southern tip of Patuakhali where both sunrise and sunset can be watched over the Bay of Bengal from the same stretch of sand. Around it are the Fatrar Char and Gangamati mangroves, a Rakhine community with a century-old Buddhist temple, and the Rash Purnima gathering each November. Since the Padma Bridge opened, Dhaka is about seven hours away by road.

November to February is dry with a calm sea and clear horizons, which is exactly what the sunrise-and-sunset promise depends on; Rash Purnima falls in November.
Weather caution
June–September brings a rough, eroding sea and near-daily rain; this low-lying coast lies squarely in the cyclone path in April–May and October–November, so follow Bangladesh Meteorological Department signals before travelling.

Getting there from Dhaka
Direct coaches (Sakura, Hanif, Green Line, Grameen) leave Sayedabad, Jatrabari and Gulistan through the day and night and cross the Padma Bridge to Kuakata in about 7 hours (285 km); there is no need to change at Barishal or Patuakhali.
