Madhabkunda Waterfall: best time to visit and today's weather
waterfall · Barlekha, Moulvibazar
Updated: Monday, 7 September 2026
The best-known waterfall in Bangladesh, where the Gangamara stream drops roughly 160–200 ft (50–60 m, depending on the source) off the rocky Patharia Hills in Barlekha before running down to Hakaluki Haor. In the monsoon a second stream forms beside the main one and the two merge into a single powerful cascade; in the dry months it thins to a ribbon. The fall sits inside a roughly 500-acre eco park with the smaller Parikunda fall and Khasi villages nearby, about 6 km east of Kathaltali Bazar.
Best time to visit
July, August, September, October
July to October: monsoon rain swells both streams so the fall is at full, thundering volume, and by September–October the downpours ease while the flow stays strong; in the dry season (November–March) the cascade shrinks to a trickle.
Weather caution
The pool (kunda) below the fall has strong, swirling currents in the monsoon and some 20 visitors have drowned there over the years — stay out of the marked danger zone; the rocks are slippery. Continuous heavy rain also triggers landslides on the Patharia approach: about 31 m of the access road collapsed after 28–31 May 2025 rains (a similar collapse happened in 2017), so heed the red flags and avoid days of nonstop downpour.
