Bhawal National Park is a 5,022-hectare coppice sal (Shorea robusta) forest beside the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway about 40 km north of Dhaka, managed as a park since 1974 and formally declared in 1982; it straddles Gazipur Sadar and Sripur upazilas. It is the capital's nearest large forest: shaded trails through gazari sal, a lake with boats, a watch tower, and 31 picnic spots and 19 cottages that fill with day-trippers on winter Fridays. Dry, cool days: trails are firm, the forest is light on mosquitoes and leeches, and picnic season is in full swing.

No serious weather hazard; in the monsoon (Jun–Sep) trails turn muddy and leeches appear, and Apr–May afternoons are hot and humid even under the canopy.

Getting there from Dhaka
Any Mymensingh-bound bus from Mohakhali or Gulistan runs up the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway (N3); ask to be dropped at Bhawal National Park Gate No. 3, roughly 40 km and 1–2 hours from Dhaka depending on traffic, or get off at Rajendrapur and take an easy-bike about 5 km to the gate.
